Foundation Sponsors Oregon Public Broadcasting Special “Growing Up & Growing Old

Groundbreaking Documentary on Family Caregiving Aired on OPB October 11, 2000

“The ‘gray wave’ is about to hit. Due to the aging baby boomer population, in twenty years 14 million people will need long-term care. That’s twice as many as today. There is already a shortage of caregivers in America. Who will care for us in the future? And how will we pay for it?” – from Oregon Public Broadcasting Promotional Material, October 2000

IMPACT – Over 22,500 households viewed the program during the initial broadcasts on October 11 & 15. The broadcast included a tool-free number for people to get more information and over 250 calls were placed during the first week of broadcasting. During that same period, The Senior and Disabled Services Division webpage, oregoncares.org, had more that 1,500 hits.

GROWING UP & GROWING OLD: CARING FOR OUR PARENTS is an Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) television special that looks at the issues of elder care and some of the solutions.
