Jenna Seeley comes from the green state of Oregon, and attends Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU). She is a second year medical student, and this year’s recipient of the Giving Back Scholarship Award.
Jenna speaks of her experience treating a woman who was in so much pain, she could no longer lift her grandchildren, or work at her job effectively. After Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), the situation resolved and Jenna says, “the woman inspired me to learn more about osteopathic medicine and incorporate the approach into my interactions at my school and in my community”.
She went on to say, “Being an osteopathic physician is more than a commitment to a profession, it is a commitment to a way of life” I envision my future as an advocate for those in need, whether that is in regard to healthcare needs or social services, I will be an advocate”.
Mark A. Taylor, PhD and Chief/Professor of Cellular Sciences had this to say about Jenna, “Jenna has demonstrated superior intellect, dedication, perseverance and compassion. Jenna’s strengths are thoroughness, a moral character, a high energy level, maturity, the capacity to think analytically, and the ability to prioritize tasks”.
Stephen D. Laird, DO, MHPE, FACOS, Professor of Surgery, states that Jenna has, “completed medical volunteering in Guatemala, Haiti, Costa Rica and Nicaragua”. Jenna has demonstrated a strong commitment to service. She volunteers at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission both as a student volunteer in the clinic, and as a Spanish translator”.
Jenna says this about her future, “I am grateful for all of the opportunities that I have had to invest in others thus far, and I look forward to investing in my community in the Pacific Northwest as a future osteopathic physician”.
