Student Derek McClune

Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine | OMS IV

Derek McClune carries a lesson from his father into every part of medical training: leave people and places better than you found them. Whether encouraging a high school wrestler after a difficult loss, interpreting for a Spanish-speaking patient, or mentoring a younger student, he finds purpose in the moments that help someone feel supported. Originally from Wenatchee, Washington, Derek plans to return to the Pacific Northwest as an orthopedic surgeon committed to compassionate care and better access for rural communities.

Receiving an NWOF scholarship for a third time is both an honor and a reminder of the community Derek hopes to serve. The Foundation’s continued support has helped make his medical training possible.
