Student Doctor Sejal Dhaliwal

Northwest Osteopathic Foundation General Scholarship Recipient

Student Doctor Sejal Dhaliwal is a medical student at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine (PNWU-COM), where she exemplifies leadership, compassion, and a deep commitment to service.

A proud Washington native, Sejal has dedicated herself to improving healthcare access across the state through advocacy, education, and hands-on service. Whether serving unhoused individuals seeking care or immigrants unsure of how to access it, her goal has always been to bridge gaps and promote health equity.

As PNWU Senator for Advocacy, she helps plan student participation in DO Day, and has met with state legislators to advocate for public health initiatives, including the End Tuberculosis Now Act and environmental health improvements in the Duwamish Valley. She also traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate with the American College of Physicians for improved patient access to care.

To support families in crisis, Sejal serves as a Disaster Action Team Duty Officer with the Red Cross, coordinating emergency response efforts for fires and disasters in Central and Eastern Washington. She also contributes to the Northwest Interprofessional Health Collaborative, piloting an interprofessional distinction program to strengthen team-based community care.

Her dedication to mentorship and education is equally strong. As Assistant Director of Training and Education for COPE Health Solutions at Providence Swedish, Sejal trained over 600 Health Scholars and helped launch a mentorship program for low-income youth. Through Roots to Wings, she mentors Indigenous and Latinx youth, guiding them toward careers in healthcare.

Her commitment to research and discovery led her to the NIDDK Medical Student Research Program in Diabetes at the University of Washington, where she explored innovative ways to improve care for at-risk populations.

Rooted in her Sikh belief of Seva, or selfless service, Sejal brings compassion and advocacy to every patient encounter. Her experiences—from volunteering at free clinics during the pandemic to addressing vaccine hesitancy in her community—have strengthened her resolve to serve all people, in all communities, through advocacy, education, and compassionate care.
